Delete your account

Coveton is a private, end-to-end encrypted messenger, and your account is yours to close whenever you choose. Deleting your account removes your profile and all of your data from Coveton. This page explains how to do it, exactly what happens, and how to request deletion if you can no longer sign in.

How to delete your account

You can delete your account yourself from the Coveton app or the web app in a few steps:

1. Open Coveton on your phone, or sign in to the web app at app.coveton.com.
2. Go to Settings > Account.
3. Scroll to the Danger zone and select Delete account.
4. Type DELETE to confirm and, if you sign in with a password, enter it.
5. Confirm Delete my account. Your account and its data are removed right away.

Before you delete, you can select Download my data in the same section to save a copy of your account information first.

What a data export contains

A Download my data export gives you a copy of the account information we hold, including:

• Your profile details: display name, photo and about.
• Your account and plan information, such as email and subscription status.
• Your list of linked devices and their public keys.
• The list of channels and communities your account belongs to.

Because your messages, calls, status and files are end-to-end encrypted and readable only on your own devices, they are not included in a server-side export in readable form. Export your data before you delete your account, since deletion cannot be undone.

What is removed

Deleting your account permanently removes:

• Your profile, display name, photo, and about.
• Your account credentials and linked devices.
• Your messages, calls history, status updates, and media.
• Your channels, communities, and other content tied to your account.
• Your end-to-end encrypted content, which is destroyed together with your account.

Because Coveton is end-to-end encrypted, your content can only be read on your own devices. When your account is deleted, the encrypted content associated with it is destroyed and cannot be recovered by you or by us.

Deletion is permanent and immediate

Account deletion takes effect immediately and cannot be undone. Once your account is deleted, you are signed out, and there is no way to restore your account or its data. If you want a copy of your information, download it before you delete your account.

A limited amount of information may be retained only where we are legally required to keep it, or to prevent fraud and abuse. It is never used to reconstruct your conversations, which remain encrypted and inaccessible.

Cannot sign in? Request account deletion

If you have lost access to your account and cannot delete it yourself, we can process the deletion for you. Use the button below to send a deletion request, or email us directly at support@coveton.com. So we can verify ownership, send your request from the email address on the account and include the account email. We will confirm once your account and data have been deleted.
